Black Lives Matter: Our Statement
We are both hurt and outraged by recent events in the US. America is not alone.
We too in the UK have stories of brutality, discrimination, and disparity amongst peoples. Racial injustice inhibits and shortens Black lives. This is intolerable.
We celebrate the Black lives of those who have so strongly influenced and contributed to our culture, health system, economy, politics and every facet of life within the UK.
We want our Black colleagues, group members, peer leaders, students, volunteers, and supporters to know that we will always stand with you – as individuals and as part of the Aphasia Re-Connect community. Our mission is to promote inclusion, participation and community…to enjoy a life with opportunity, freedom of choice and enhanced wellbeing.
We actively combat racism by bringing people together. Through our work, we embrace conversation, understanding, and thoughtful intervention. We bring people together from all backgrounds and promote mutual understanding and respect.
Dealing with issues like systemic racism can be extremely uncomfortable. We don’t immediately have all the answers. We are forever willing to embrace our discomfort and TAKE ACTION through conversation and engagement with each other.
Although we are still socially distanced right now, we can always stay connected and lean on each other. If there is anything at all you’d like to share with us, please get in touch.
